Joakim was born and raised in Eskilstuna. As a child he preferred reading books to playing sport. When he was 18 he bought his first guitar and taught himself how to play. Joakim attended university while working at a retirement home. He now lives in Stockholm. He has a partner and two children.
Joakim writes all the lyrics for Kent's songs and almost all of the music. He has also written songs for Lisa Miskovsky, Titiyo, and Freddie Wadling, and had a side project with Peter Svensson (from the Cardigans) named Paus.
Some of the bands Joakim likes to listen to are Radiohead, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, David Bowie, and The Beatles.

Martin was born in Sparreholm and moved to Eskilstuna when he was 11. He and Joakim created the band together in 1990. In 1993 he moved to Stockholm but has since moved back to Sparreholm where he currently resides.
Upon moving to Stockholm Martin got a job with Stockholm Records which led to him meeting The Cardigans and getting Kent a spot opening for them on their Swedish tour.
Martin sometimes writes the music for Kent's songs along with Joakim. He also has a side project with Martin "Nåid" Landqvist named Peking Laundry. Martin likes reggae music.

Sami was born in Finland but brought up in Eskilstuna. Before Kent he attended college and then worked as a welder. In 1990 Joakim bought him a guitar and Sami's natural guitar talent was discovered.
He was previously in a band with Joakim called the Coca Cola Kids and then when Martin and Joakim decided to make a new band they immediately brought Sami in. The other members consider Sami to be the "cool" guy of the band.

Though both his parents are Finnish, Markus was born and raised in Eskilstuna. He was studying to be a psychiatrist before he joined Kent. In 1990 he worked at the same retirement home as Joakim did, while also playing in a band called Bed of Flowers.
Markus can play a wide range of instruments including drums, piano, guitar and bass. He is also a good singer and performed the vocals on Papin Jahti, the hidden track on B-Sidor 95-00 with the Finnish lyrics.
Markus doesn't like being in the spotlight but prefers to be a background guy. His favourite bands are Depeche Mode, Radiohead, and Kraftwerk.
